People often ask me: ‘Do I have to be flexible to do yoga?’ or ‘Am I too old to do Yoga?’ ….I always answer them:
‘If you’re breathing, you can do Yoga!’

About Krishnaa Mukti Ji

Your Expert Teacher

Krishnaa Mukti has been teaching mature bodies for many, many moons and truly understands those in their Wisdom Years.

The most fulfilling of all her classes, Krishnaa guides students to connect with their bodies, not only to boost their confidence but to become more agile and strong. Learning how to balance themselves physically has a direct effect mentally; becoming calmer, happier in daily life. Using the Akhanda approach and sharing simple, yet life-changing practices, her students can do things in their lives that they had thought were no longer suitable.

The benefits of yoga have been expounded over the years, though many people are not comfortable joining a regular class. Yoga is often taught in large classes without adequate observation and adjusting, often done at a fast pace with little attention to detail or alignment. In this environment it is easy for people to injure themselves physically or to feel they are too old, too unfit, too heavy or too weak, which is not a good psychological experience. They come to believe Yoga is not for them and yet we know….

…Yoga is for everyone!

It is better to live one’s own dharma imperfectly than another’s perfectly. When you copy someone else you are denying your own potential & limiting yourself. You can never be someone else. Your work is to discover your true nature.

Bhagavad Gita

Course Outline – 100hr Yoga for the Mature Body Training

As we age, the body changes. Blood pressure, bone strength, prolapses, loss of muscle, stiff or arthritic joints and loss of balance are just a few of the things you will be presented with as a yoga teacher of seniors. To teach effectively & safely the teacher needs to understand the pathology of these conditions, contra-indications & how to modify asanas. Gain a deeper understanding of aging and the effect on the body systems (circulation, endocrine etc..), chronic conditions, menopause and general lifestyle considerations.

Become more confident to present yoga philosophy, introducing the concept of one's true nature. Inspire your students with a sense of purpose & joy, while providing the tools to manage change and the challenges of daily life.

Many people (of all ages) have led sedentary lives and their bodies are not as flexible or strong as they once were. However, they are still able to do many of the asanas presented in a yoga class, provided they are presented in the right way. You will learn how to observe attentively, modify postures and encourage the use of props, while ensuring a sense of safety & support, without being condescending or patronizing. You will also learn the art of sequencing for the Wisdom years; Pranayama, Bandhas, Mantra and Meditation.

The psychology of the older person is often quite different from the younger person. They have different aspirations, fears and levels of contentment. Understanding this is a prerequisite to presenting both philosophy & yoga psychology. Gaining perspective and understanding of psychology of the mature person, the mental challenges faced in the aging process and how to support them using this time.
